Willie James Nelson

November 3, 1937 — March 2, 2017

Mr. Willie James “Doc” Nelson was born on November 3, 1937 to the late Eskie Dixon and the late Ida Nelson. He was a faithful member of New Revelation Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. George Gaymon until his health failed. He worked as a Construction Heavy Equipment Operator (CHEO). He was the Asst. Manger of the Gospel Hi-Lites of Lugoff, SC for many years. He also was an Eighteen Wheeler Truck Driver. Willie really loved racing and watching car racing. He owned his own race car by the name of “Executive Salty Dog.” He was preceded in death by one daughter, Willie Mae Harris and one brother, Carthell “Bo” Nelson. He leaves to cherish his memories to his beloved wife, Cora Jones Nelson of twenty-five years; three daughters, Cassandra Fuller, Mary (Albert) Duncan both of Columbia, SC and Janet (Sylvester) Outten of Elgin, SC; two sons, Walter James Nelson of Columbia, SC and James Alvan Nelson of Charlotte, NC; two stepsons, Clyburn Dowayne and Steven Jabbar Belton both of Delaware, Ohio; one son-in-law, Isaac Delane Harris; four sisters, Alberta Simmons, Christine (Charles) Solomon of Blythewood, SC; Ida Mae (Donald) Lampkin of Fairplay, SC; and Mary Nelson Crudup of New York; and a host of grands, great grands, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and friends.
