Thelma Belton Smalls, the beloved daughter of Margaret and Fred Belton, Sr, was born on September 11, 1945 in Camden, South Carolina. She was called from her earthly labor to eternal rest on August 31, 2022.
Thelma received her education in the Kershaw County Public Schools. After high school graduation, she became a licensed cosmetologist. She later became a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Kershaw County Medical Center. Thelma had a passion for helping people. This was her true calling; she really enjoyed the patients under her care. She retired from the Kershaw County Medical Center in 2005, after nearly 30 years of service.
Thelma was a dedicated and faithful member of Saint Peter United Methodist Church where she served as a lay leader, an usher and a singer in the church choir. Throughout her life, she touched the lives of so many, and will be sorely missed by those who were blessed to know her.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert, Berkley, Fred Jr, David and Roosevelt Belton; and sister, Oretta Belton Wood.
Thelma is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, Leroy E. Smalls; two sons, Jerry Smalls of Camden, South Carolina and Robert E. Smalls (Tara) of Catskill Mountains, New York; daughter, Quandara D. Grant (Jack) of Sheldon, South Carolina; Siblings, Jimmie Belton (Mary) of Mount Vernon, New York, Allene Kirkland of New Rochelle, New York, Bertha Belton of Grand Forks, North Dakota; Sister-in-law, Betty Belton of Midway, Florida; Six Grandchildren, Robert E. Smalls II, Keturah N. Smalls and Nalani C. Smalls of White Plains, New York, Brian K. Smalls, Las Vegas, Nevada, Latara S. Grant of Sheldon, South Carolina, Shaniqua S. Williams (Tyrone) of Ludowici, Georgia; Three Great Grandchildren, Tyrece M. and Kaiden T. Williams of Ludowici, Georgia, and Josiah A. Pacheco-Smalls of Mount Vernon, New York; Aunt, Viola Belton; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
