Sylvia Drakeford

August 27, 1940 — April 14, 2018

Sylvia Ann Drakeford, 77, wife of the late King Solomon Drakeford, passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, April 14, 2018. She was born in Camden, South Carolina on August 27, 1940 to the late Nathan and Angie Anderson.

Sylvia was a spunky, outgoing person. She was a woman that enjoyed her family. Sylvia's greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. "Butterball" was her pride and joy. She will be remembered for her welcoming spirit and love of family. Love of family was evident in her participation in the annual family reunion. Sylvia enjoyed attending the reunions and spending time bringing her children and extended family together. She was the glue that held the family and community together. When she wasnt doing something with her family, Sylvia enjoyed watching her soap operas, western television shows and talking with friends on the phone. Mom was famous for making sweet potato pies and sweet potato souffle during special holiday, in which she would share with so many.

Sylvia received her formal education in the Kershaw County Public School system and her early religious training at Zion Hill AME Zion Church in Camden, South Carolina. She served as an usher, deaconess, missionary and the Pastor's Steward. Sylvia was an active member who loved her church and supported Zion Hill AME Zion Church with her presence, prayers, and finances.



She is survived by her loving children, Brenda A. Johnson of Camden, SC, Cynthia (Marvin, Sr) Johnson-Lee of Columbia, SC, and King Julius Drakeford of Camden, SC; grandchildren, Cedrick ( Celestine) Rutherford of Columbia, SC, Marvin Lee, Jr of Elgin, SC, Patrick (Khristina) Lee of Atlanta, GA, Darrell A. Williams of Camden, SC, and Ethan K. Drakeford of Lugoff, SC; three great grand children, Rashad Lee, Kendrick Lee and Zander Lee; one brother, Robert (Cynthia) Anderson of Philadelphia, PA; five sisters, Naomi (Larry) Skipworth of Delaware, Brenda Hill, Shirley Anderson, Hattie Erwin, and Linda Anderson all of Philadelphia, PA; special nephews, Nathan "Timmy" Anderson, Sr, Derrick Alexander and Keith Alexander; one special niece, Carolyn "Neicy" Anderson Fowler; God Son, Donald (Millicent) Alexander; a great grand son that will arrive soon, Kameron Lee of Atlanta, GA; host of cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a number of siblings.
