James E Hayes

Mr. James Edward Hayes entered into eternal rest Monday, March 7, 2022 in Camden, South Carolina.

James “Mutt” was born on November 28, 1954, in Kershaw County, South Carolina to the late Earl Hayes, Sr. and Lelia Hayes. James was educated in the Kershaw County public school system. After high school, he attended Midlands Technical College and received his Associate’s Degree from Columbia College.

James was married to Myrtle Hayes for 41 years. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Camden, South Carolina where he sang on the choir and served on the Finance Committee. James loved the God he served.

James joined the US Marine Corps in 1973. After an honorable discharge, he returned home. He was employed by Dupont before employment at the US Postal Service for 28 years. James loved playing golf, spending time outdoors and helping people. He also enjoyed other sports, having played baseball with the Knights Hill Aces. He was a dedicated, loving and caring husband and father. He especially loved spending time with his grandsons, whom he had a very special and close relationship with.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Hayes and Janette Hayes and one brother, Tony Hayes.

Those left to celebrate his life and cherish his memory include: a loving wife – Myrtle Hayes of the home; two sons – Nevin (Sania) Hayes of Harrisburg, North Carolina and Marcus (Danielle) Hayes of Charlotte, North Carolina; one sister – Lillie Mae (Herbert) Boykin of Camden, South Carolina; one brother – Earl Hayes, Jr. of Camden, South Carolina; two grandsons – Nevin and Shawn Hayes, both of Harrisburg, North Carolina; four nephews – Kevin (Gina) Hayes of California, Earl Hayes, III of Camden, South Carolina, Kenton Hayes of Charlotte, North Carolina and Alton McDow of Atlanta, Georgia; two nieces – Toni Boykin and Ivy Fowler, both of Columbia, South Carolina; five sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law; special golf friends; a host of cousins and other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
