Henry Reid, Jr

July 18, 1938 — August 7, 2023

Henry Reid was born July 18, 1938, from the union of Henry and Alice Reed in Camden, SC. He departed this earthly life on Monday, August 7, 2023.

He attended Kershaw County Schools, finishing at Jackson High School. He relocated to New York City, NY, in the late 1950’s. He worked as a Communications Technician at AT&T for thirty years before retiring and moving back to South Carolina.

Henry loved the Lord and was a dedicated member of the Edwards Chapel AME Zion Church in Camden, SC. He is widely known as being a devoted leader and mentor to others. He served on the Steward Board and previously served as a Preacher’s Steward. He was a Sunday School instructor, a part of the Men of Varick Ministry, the chairman of the Music Ministry and the prayer coordinator for the church. He was as an Honorary Missionary and actively supported various outreach projects.

He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Reed, Sr., his mother, Alice Reed, his brother Howard Reed, his grandmother, Lillie Sutton, his niece, Angela Reed, and his grandson (and twin) Na’eem Jones.

Those left to cherish his memories are his three brothers, Edward Reed of Camden, SC; Joseph (MaKeda) Reed of Kissimmee, FL; Thomas (Terry) Reed of Augusta, GA; one sister, Alice (Wayne) Williams of Camden, SC; sister-in-law Vernell Reed of Mt. Vernon, NY; children Henry (Carol) Reid, III, Bronx, NY; Russell (Audrey) Evans, High Point, NC; Richard Jones of Los Angeles, CA; Hope Patterson of Willingboro, NJ; Kerita Jones of Staten Island, NY and Natasha Reid of Queens, NY; one aunt, Maggie Sutton of New York City, NY; one uncle, Robert (Reese) Workman of Bridgeport, CT; several loving grandchildren and great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Special thank you to Dr. WL Schoolmeester and the Camden Heart Care staff and Reverend Vanessa Wilson and the Edwards Chapel AME Zion Church family. The family would also like to send a special thank you to everyone for the outpouring of love and support that you have shown us. We appreciate you and your continued prayers during this time.
