Edward Reed

Camden

Edward Reed was born on March 3, 1940, to the late Henry and Alice Reed. He peacefully departed this earthly life on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Springdale Nursing Home in Camden, South Carolina.

Edward was educated in the Kershaw County School District and attended Jackson High School in the 1950s. Following high school, he moved to Paterson, New Jersey, where he spent many years building his life, raising his family, and creating lasting memories.

Edward loved the Lord with his whole heart. He often shared that “God had me here for a reason.” His faith was an important part of who he was and how he lived his life.

Edward also loved to travel and enjoyed experiencing new places. Those who knew him will especially remember his infectious personality and his giant, unforgettable laugh. His laughter could fill a room, and his warmth and joyful spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Alice Reed; his brothers, Howard Reed, Henry Reid, Jr., and Thomas Reed, who passed away just two and a half months ago; his grandmother, Lillie Sutton; his daughters, Genesia Reed and Brenda Bivens; and his niece, Angela Reed.

Edward leaves to cherish his precious memories his brother, Joseph Reed of Kissimmee, Florida; his sister, Alice Reed (Wayne) Williams of Camden, South Carolina; Elizabeth Reed and his children in Paterson, New Jersey, Eddie and Debbie Reed (twins), Francine Reed, and Darrin Williams; his daughter, Kim Jackson of New York City, New York; Hattie Reed of Wingate, North Carolina; his daughter, Edwina Reed (Jeremy) Harrell of Monroe, North Carolina; Larry (Ann) Bivens of Monroe, North Carolina; Freda Bivens Bennett and Bill Bivens of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Darrell (Michelle) Bivens of High Point, North Carolina; one aunt Maggie Sutton of Atlanta, Georgia; one uncle Robert Workman of Bridgeport, Connecticut; sisters-in-law, Vernell Reed of Mount Vernon, New York and Teresa Reed of Augusta, Georgia.

He also leaves behind several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory and carry his joyful spirit with them.

The family extends a special and heartfelt thank you to the staff of Springdale Nursing Home for the care, kindness, and support shown to Edward and his family.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to Edward’s wonderful neighbors, who showed him kindness, friendship, and support throughout the years. Your thoughtfulness and care will always be remembered.

Edward's life was a testament to faith, family, laughter, and love. Although he will be deeply missed, the joy he brought to others and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
