Chenita Jackson

CHENITA JACKSON, born June 19, 1946 in Kershaw County Memorial Hospital in Camden, South Carolina. She was born on the eighth wedding anniversary of her parents, Bert and Grover Jackson of Kershaw County. Her maternal grandparents were James "Jim" and Clarissa and paternal grandparents were Ed and Delphine Jackson. She departed her life on earth on Monday, September 10, 2018 in Tamarac, Florida.Chenita attended Mickle School in Kershaw County and graduated high school from Boylan-Haven Mather Academy in Camden, South Carolina. She then earned the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Bennett College, Greensboro, North Carolina,. After graduating, she returned to Kershaw County and taught for several years at Jackson Middle School. After which she relocated to Detroit, Michigan, where she taught in several elementary schools. During that time, she earned the Master of Science Degree in Elementary Education (Reading) from Wayne State University.Chenita became ill and retired from active teaching after thirty years. She moved back to the family home in South Carolina after the death of brother, Ronnie, in September 2012. She and her brother, Grover, resided together. Back home, she resumed her active membership at Shiloh United Methodist Church where she began her original formal religious training. While in Detroit, she was an active member of St. Timothy United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities, including but not limited to the United Methodist Women and Pastor - Parish Committee. Chenita remained dedicated to whatever she had chosen to participate in, including, tutoring elementary and middle school students and Bennett College Alumnae Association as Regional Director. She was a devoted, loving and caring sister to her brother, Grover Jackson, Jr. of Ridgeway, SC. and four sisters: Edna J. Bennett (Nelson), Bobbie Jean Moore (George), Sharon Faye Holmes (Thomas, Jr.), and Shirley J. Callandret (David). To cherish her memory, she leaves one (1) niece: Carissa B. Strane (Melvin) and five (5) nephews: Nelson Bennett, Jr., MD (Jamie), Rasan Holmes (Jennifer), George Moore, Jr., (Devon), Jonathan Moore, Devin Holmes (Jasmine, MD). Chenita was always excited about the birth of her grand nieces and nephews and their active and noisy visits: Ashley, Jason, Charlotte, Addison, Judiann, Miles, Emilia, and the twins, Gavin and Stephanie. Additionally. she cherished and was devoted to her surviving aunts and uncle Mrs. Juanita J. Smart and Richard Smart and Rosa D. Jackson, her cousins, neighbors and friends in both SC and Detroit, Michigan.
