Charlene Nelson

November 1, 1938 — May 10, 2022

Charlene Nelson, affectionately known as Chucky, was born an only child to the late Frank and Grace Lawton on November 1, 1938, in Clairton, PA. Charlene went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 10, 2022. She graduated from Clairton High School in Clairton, PA. Charlene was a conscientious and diligent worker. She had numerous jobs before retiring from the United States Post Office where she was also known as “The Avon Lady”. Charlene loved children and started two different daycares, one in Clairton and one in Columbia. They affectionately called her Nana or Aunt Chucky.

She married Curtis Jackson in 1956. She was blessed with two sons, Derek and Curtis and one daughter, Renee. Charlene loved unconditionally, disciplined wisely, and worked tirelessly to help make her children who they are today. She extended compassion, love and wisdom to family members, friends and even strangers. Charlene married Robert Nelson in 1988 and enjoyed many happy years until his passing in 2012.

Charlene was a classy lady who loved to shop; she couldn’t pass up a good sale whether she needed it or not. She especially loved to gamble, and gamble she did, whenever a casino resort would pay for her transportation and room. She looked forward to her weekly Pokeno lunch dates with her friends and would play solitaire, view Facebook and YouTube on her iPad for many hours. As a member of FNEBC, she sang in the choir and participated in the Grateful Ones ministry.

Charlene is survived by her three children: Derek Jackson (Yumi), Renee Jackson- Grazette (Lawson) and Curtis (James), ten grandchildren: Tamika, Angela, Yulanda, Derek, Donavan, Bryan, Siobhan, Theresa, Erica and Josay, and seven great-grandchildren: Amiyah, Joseph, Christopher, Derek, Aria, Suniah and Kaia.

To be loved by Charlene was to be truly blessed and she will be deeply missed by many.
