Catherine Murphy was born on March 10, 1941 in Camden, South Carolina to the late Albert and Hannah Austin Barnes. She entered into eternal rest on July 6, 2021.
Catherine accepted Christ at an early age. In her youth, she attended Edwards Chapel AME Zion Church in Camden, South Carolina. Later in life, she joined St. Matthew Baptist Church in Lugoff, South Carolina. Catherine served as a dedicated deaconess and a faithful Senior Choir member. She was a faithful member until her health failed.
On August 29, 1959, she was united in Holy matrimony to the late Jimmie Lee Murphy, Sr. To this union, five sons were born. Catherine worked in the sorting department of Skyline Manufacturing up until she retired.
Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sally Murphy; brothers Dan Barnes and William Hunter.
Those left to celebrate her homegoing and cherish life's memories include her sons, Jimmie Murphy, Jr (Cortessa) of Lexington, KY, Bernard Murphy of Bronx, NY, Kelvin Murphy of Camden, SC, Billy Murphy of Sumter, SC and Bobby Murphy (Jacqueline) of Columbia, SC; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Susie Scott of Lugoff, SC, Rosa Lee Barnes of New Haven, CT, Hattie Dixon of Camden, SC, Willene Dixon of Bishopville, SC, Gracie Brown of Camden, SC and Mary Gaskins of Camden, SC; brothers, David Barnes of Camden, SC and Harold Hunter of Lugoff, SC; God-son, Paul Tucker of Charleston, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
