Our beloved Betty Jean Canty peacefully departed this earthly life on Friday, June 5th, 2026, at the age of 80. She was born on December 21, 1945, in Warren, Ohio to the late Dud and Louise Canty. She graduated from Warren G. Harding High School and later married Albert Page. From this union were born three children. Betty relocated to South Carolina in 1973 where she became employed with the South Carolina Department of Mental Health. She served at this agency for 28 years before retiring. She was a faithful member of the First Northeast Baptist Church. The most important thing to know about her is that in January of 1990, she gave her life to the Lord Jesus Christ!
She was preceded in death by her loving parents as well as her sisters, Juanita Canty, Nellie Canty Sperling, Fannie Parks, Flora Bonner, and her brothers Abdul Jabarr and Gerald Canty.
To cherish her loving memory are her two remaining sisters Patricia Canty of Blythewood, South Carolina and Mary Helen Canty of Warren, Ohio; her children, Abdullatif Qaasim, Albert Daniel Page Jr, Schiria Page Wilson (Willie), and her bonus children, Thomasina Daniels and Issac Martin. She was also blessed with nine grandchildren: Andre Daniels, Precious Foster, Cory Whiten, Antwan Sweatman, Albert Page III, Aaron Page, Joshua Wilson, Caleb Wilson, and Siarah Wilson; three great grandchildren DeAndre Daniels, Dakota Daniels, and Enzo Sweatman. Lastly, a host of cherished nieces, nephews, dear friends and kindred spirits will remember her lovingly.
Betty lived a simple life. However, her relationship with the Lord Jesus was her cornerstone and her desire was to leave a lasting impression of this very sacred relationship. The poem below by Maya Angelou speaks well of her life and legacy.
When I say…”I am a Christian.”
I’m not shouting, “I’m clean living.”
I’m whispering, “I was lost,
Now I’m found and forgiven.”
When I say…”I am a Christian.”
I don’t speak of this with pride.
I’m confessing that I stumble
And need Christ to be my guide.
When I say…”I am a Christian.”
I’m not trying to be strong.
I’m professing that I’m weak
And need His strength to carry on.
When I say…”I am a Christian.”
I’m not bragging of success.
I’m admitting I have failed
And need God to clean my mess.
When I say…”I am a Christian.”
I’m not claiming to be perfect.
My flaws are far too visible
But, God believes I am worth it.
When I say…”I am a Christian.”
I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches
So I call upon His name.
When I say…”I am a Christian.”
I’m not holier than thou.
I’m just a simple sinner
Who received God’s grace somehow.
The family of Betty Jean Canty wishes to thank each of you for your heartfelt love and condolences during this time. While we grieve, we do not grieve as those who have no hope as her life exemplified life, love and above all…HOPE…in Jesus’ name!
