Allan Cabbagestalk was born May 30, 1959, in Washington, DC, to the late James Jr and Minnie Lee Cabbagestalk. He was educated in Washington, DC, and Kershaw County South Carolina public schools. He was an honor student throughout his educational journey. He attended the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and Allen University in Columbia SC. Allan was a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity.
Allan was baptized at Tenth Street Baptist in Washington, DC. After moving to South Carolina, he became a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Bishopville SC. He was an avid student of the Bible and could quote any number of the Scriptures. A verse he quoted frequently comes from Genesis 1:27-28.
Allan had a very inquisitive mind, and his favorite hobby was reading. He had a great sense of humor and a booming laugh. Allan could hold a conversation with anyone and there wasn’t a subject he didn’t know something about. He was very competitive, especially when competing against classmates and family playing tetherball. He considered himself a tetherball expert. He had a kind heart and really cared about family.
Allan married Regina Cooper on February 26, 2006. In addition to being a husband, he was the father of a daughter, Tramaina (Kendrick) Dennis, and two sons, Torrance Julian (aka TJ) and Derrick. He was the proud grandfather of 5 grandchildren: Kanisha, Kadejia, Shymiek, Kamira, and Mikah Dennis.
He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings: Janice Cabbagestalk, Carrie Cabbagestalk, Deborah Cabbagestalk, Althea (Alvin) Belton, Anthony (Crystal) Cabbagestalk, Corey Cabbagestalk, Thomas Cabbagestalk, brother-in-law Donald Cooper as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Minnie Cabbagestalk and his mother and father in-law, Margaret and James Cooper, and brother-in-law David McElveen.
