King Solomon Drakeford

June 26, 1935 — March 23, 2016

King Solomon Drakeford was born June 26, 1935 in Kershaw County to the late Solomon and Leila Drakeford.  He entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia, South Carolina. King received his early education in the public school system of Kershaw County and attended Boylan Haven Mather Academy in Camden, South Carolina. A veteran of the Korean War, he served his country in the United States Marine Corps. King loved the Lord with all his heart and would read his bible daily.  He received his religious training at Parker Baptist Church in Camden, South Carolina and became a member.  King served as a Sunday School Teacher and was a member of the Adult Choir as a leader. He retired in the early 90's from E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Company of Lugoff, South Carolina where he was employed as a spinner. King was preceded in death by his brothers: William, Willie Johnson, Curtis, Barry and Julius; two sisters, Laura J. Wheeler and Mary Lee Barnes. Those left to cherish his fond memories, grieve his passing and celebrate his home going are his wife of 41 years, Sylvia A. Drakeford of Camden, South Carolina; one son, King J. Drakeford, Jr. of Camden, South Carolina; two loving step-daughters, Brenda A. Johnson of Camden, South Carolina and Cynthia Johnson Lee (Marvin) of Columbia, South Carolina; one God-son, Donald Alexander (Millicent) of Lugoff, South Carolina; five grandsons, Cedrick "Tyrell" Rutherford, Darrell A. Williams both of Camden, South Carolina, Marvin J. Lee, Jr. of Elgin, South Carolina, Patrick S. Lee of Atlanta, Georgia and Ethan K. Drakeford of Lugoff, South Carolina; one brother, James Drakeford of Ashland, Virginia; a special nephew, Otis Drakeford of Columbia, South Carolina; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Drakeford of Camden, South Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
