Harold Walker

March 5, 1949 — April 22, 2018

Deacon Harold Walker, Sr. of Camden, SC aka “Biggs” and “Poppy”, transitioned from his earthly life to his heavenly home on April 22, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 5, 1949 in New Haven, CT. to the late Palmer Lee and Jessie Mae Hickman-Walker. Harold grew up in North Haven Connecticut and attend North Haven Public Schools graduating from North Haven High School. Shortly thereafter he was drafted into the U.S Army and was a Viet Nam Veteran for which he received an honorable discharged. He attended New Haven Technical School for heating/refrigeration and air conditioning repair and received a certificate in HVC. Upon his return from military duty he married the love of his life and high school sweet heart, Theandra Yvonne Fox-Walker aka “the captain”, as he affectionately called her. They were married 47 years. Deacon Walker was employed by Southern CT Gas Company for 25 years prior to his retirement.
After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Camden, SC and became members of Canty Hill Baptist Church in Cassatt, SC where he served as; Deacon, sang with the Male Chorus and was in charge of overseeing several ministries. He was also an original member of The Springs of Life Giving Water Church, New Haven, CT. He remained a member Deacon Emeritus. Biggs, as he was affectionately called, loved and enjoyed his family, his churches, sports, music and traveling but above all he loved God. He enjoyed attending church services, traveling with his wife and children and spending fun time with his family and friends. He was a lover of all music and enjoyed singing, which was a great part of his church life. He sang with the male choirs at Canty Hill Baptist church and the Old Land Mark group at their annual event in Camden SC.
Deacon Walker leaves to cherish loving memories, his devoted and loving wife of the home, his daughter, Evangelist Kerra T. Ashe (Elder Jervis Ashe) of Camden, SC and son Harold Walker Jr. of Hamden, CT. His grandchildren, Kaila A. Ashe, of Hamden, CT, Immanuel I. Ashe of Camden SC, Chasadie Greene of New Haven, CT and Taj T. Walker of Hamden, CT. One brother Adam Walker of New Haven, CT, six sisters, Hazel Vason, Marlene Walker, Beverly Walker of North Haven, CT, Lenora Walker of Hamden CT, Connie Walker and Lena Cummings (Clarence) of New Haven, CT. God-Children Mia Thompson, Brendan Creacy, Howard Creacy Nathaniel Douglas and Neveah Douglas and Tiffany Parker. Special Extended family Tracey Conyers, Alice Douglas, Deacon John and Ministers Patricia Clinton, Margene and Mary E. Clinton and Willie Ann Ledwell as well as many nieces, nephews and other family members. Deacon Walker will be dearly missed.
