Elizabeth J. Jones

February 18, 1927 — January 16, 2016

Elizabeth J. Jones, daughter of the late Tom and Jessie Drakeford, transitioned into eternal life on January 16, 2016 at Joliet Area Community Hospice Center. Elizabeth was raised in a christian and loving home where she was taught to be true to thyself and love others as you love yourself.  She developed a strong and committed work ethic.  She believed that you should always treat others as you would want to be treated and she lived faithfully by this motto. Elizabeth was converted at an early age at Macedonia Baptist Church where she served as a devoted servant of God.  She served in the missionaries, she was the church secretary, a choir member and mother of the church. Elizabeth married William James in 1945.  He transistioned in 1967. Elizabeth worked in food service at Camden High School for 37 years.  Upon retiring from Camden High School, she married the late Steven Jones and moved to New Jersey.  She attended Calvary Baptist Church in Paterson, New Jersey.  She worked at North Jersey Development Center for two years.  She moved back to Camden and resumed her christian work as a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Elizabeth leaves in passing a daughter, Brenda (Eugene) Simpkins of Illinois, three grandchildren, Eugene II of Michigan, William James of Germany, and Nichelle Monique of Illinois; one great-grandchild Leon Evan of Alaska; two sisters Mary Furman and Lottie Mae Drakeford both of South Carolina, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Elizabeth was preceeded in death by her devoted husband Steven Jones, brothers Lewis Drakeford, Grover Drakeford and Anderson Drakeford; sisters Mamie Drakeford, Bessie Drakeford, Martha Catoe, and Rosalee Evans. The Jones and Simpkins family gratefully acknowledges the many acts of kindness and warm expressions of sympathy extended to them during their bereavement.  We pray that God continues to richly bless each of you.
