Dorothy O. Bloome was born October 11, 1942 in Camden, South Carolina to Marshall and Lula T. Osborne. She gained her wings to Glory on Saturday, June 1, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, David C. Bloome.
Dot, as she was lovingly called by her girlfriends, was educated at Jackson High School in Camden, South Carolina. She attended Benedict College in Columbia, SC and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in English and Foreign Languages. After graduation from Benedict College, she relocated to Brooklyn, New York. There, she met and married David C. Bloome. Dot was employed with Arenia and Ernestine's Day Care at Washington Center in Brooklyn, NY as a social worker for four years. She later gained employment with The Agency of Child Development for many years. Dot received the degree of Master of Science in Education from Long Island University in 1982. She did further studies at Columbia University in the city of New York where she earned the Master of Science in Social Work. Bloome joined and served diligently at Christ Temple United Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York as an Usher, a Trustee, a member of the Pastor's Aide and a Senior Choir member until she moved back to South Carolina to assist her mom whose health was failing.
She was a member of the Jackson High School Alumni Club in Camden, South Carolina. Dot was recognized by the Naomi Chapter #27 Order of Eastern Star (O.E.S.) in appreciation for devoted and invaluable services rendered in Brooklyn, NY. After returning to Camden, Dot renewed her membership at Rafting Creek Baptist Church. She joined the Senior Choir and Pastor's Aide Ministry where she served as President until her health failed. She also served as secretary of the Senior Missionary Ministry. Dot enjoyed singing, cooking and watching wrestling any time she could. She attended the Bible Training Institute of the United Holy Church of America, Inc where she received the certificate of General Survey Course of Bible Study and the Christian Worker's Course of Bible Study of the Eastern New York Division of the Northern District. Dot was presented the certificate of service in recognition and appreciation for more than ten years of loyal and faithful service to the citizens of the state of South Carolina.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one sister, Christine O/ Lawson (Ellison Lawson, Jr) of Camden, South Carolina; two brothers, Marshall Osborne, Jr (Delores P. Osborne) and Roosevelt Osborne, Sr (Beverly J. Osborne) both of Camden, South Carolina; three nephews, Garrick M. Osborne of Charlotte, NC, Kenneth B. Lawson (Sonya Lyles Lawson) of Camden, SC and Roosevelt Osborne, Jr (Tracey S. Osborne) of Lexington, SC; two nieces, Laurie Osborne of Camden, SC and Kimberly Lawson of Charlotte, NC; three grand nephews, Ethan R. OSborne of Lexington, SC, Ryan and Tyler E. Lawson both of Camden, SC; two grand nieces, Erin Osborne and Marie Lawson both of Camden, SC; three aunts, Mrs. Juanita O. Edwards of Rembert, SC, Mrs. Willie Mae Thomas of Camden, SC and Mrs. Margaret Thomas of Virginia Beach, VA; two uncles, Mr. Willie Thomas, Jr of Virginia Beach, VA and Teddie R. Osborne, CSM (US Army Retired) of Columbia, SC; two sister-in-laws, Wanda Bloome and Paula Bloome both of Brooklyn, NY; a special guardchild , Kia of New York and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
