DeWayne Chivers

A public viewing for Mr. DeWayne Chivers will be held Sunday from 2 PM until 5 PM. Friends are encouraged to pay their respects during this time. Funeral services will be private by invitation only due to COVID.

Born in Camden, South Carolina, DeWayne “Beau” George Chivers was the son of the late William D. Chivers, Sr. and Mrs. Annie Pearl Chivers. He was a graduate of Camden High School’s class of 1977, where he was a member of the Jr. Varsity and Varsity Football Teams, Varsity Basketball Team, Track Team, Student Council, Sophomore, Junior and Senior Class Council, and Key Club. Upon graduation from high school, DeWayne attended the University of South Carolina, where he graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration Management. During his time at Carolina, DeWayne was a member of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks Football Team where he played tight end. In 1982, DeWayne was drafted by the Buffalo Bills.

At an early age, DeWayne completed a confirmation class and joined Trinity United Methodist Church, now known as Camden First United Methodist Church. He also attended Redemption Church in Greenville, South Carolina where he served on the Experience Team.

In his free time DeWayne enjoyed the outdoors, where he would fish, kayak, and ride his motorcycle. He was also an avid traveler, who spent his free time enjoying a variety of experiences.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed at State Farm Insurance as an Insurance Adjuster where he worked for over twenty years.

DeWayne loved and cherished his family and friends. He is survived by his mother, Annie Pearl Chivers, brother William “Bill” (Taunya) Chivers, sister Pamela (Keith) Boykin, nephew Brian (Andrea) Chivers, niece Bianca (Darryall) Chivers-White, nephew Alexander Johnson, four great nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
