Beverly Sharon (Lewis) Hunter

November 26, 1950 — June 21, 2016

The eldest daughter of Zinie Murray Lewis and the late Isaac Stevenson Lewis, Beverly was born November 26, 1950, in Columbia, South Carolina. She grew up and attended school in Camden, South Carolina. Beverly graduated from Jackson High School, Class of 1968 and received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from South Carolina State College (now University), Orangeburg, South Carolina. Additional graduate study was completed at The University of South Carolina and other South Carolina colleges. Beverly was employed as an elementary school teacher with the Kershaw County School District, Camden, South Carolina, until her retirement. An avid reader, Beverly enjoyed attending South Carolina State University football games and completing crossword puzzles.  She was a member and supporter of several social, civic, professional and charitable organizations including Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), National Education Association, South Carolina Education Association, and Kershaw County Education Association. Next to family and friends, she dearly loved her church. Her early Christian life began at Camden Second Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) where she remained an active, devoted and faithful member until her death. She served as Bible and Sunday School teacher, Elder and Moderator of Presbyterian Women. Beverly was a kind, giving and loving person. She greeted everyone with a bright and cheerful smile. Her survivors include her devoted mother, Mrs. Zinie Murray Lewis, Camden, SC; two sons, Chase and Reuben Brown, Camden, SC; two sisters, Dr. Stephanie Lewis Catoe (W. Lee) Columbia, SC and Ms. Carol Lewis Jefferson, Charleston, SC; nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
