Amelia Loynes Alexander

June 6, 1915 — September 4, 2019

Born in Kershaw County, Mrs. Amelia Alexander was the daughter of the late Josephine Evans Loynes and the late Willie Loynes. She began her religious journey at a very early age as a member of St. John Baptist Church where she was very active until she relocated to New York. She was a member of the Adult Choir for over twenty five years. She attended the public schools in Camden, SC. She also attended adult education classes in the evening and earned her high school completion certificate.

She met Mr. Ruben Alexander on July 4th, 1947 and they were married on August 23rd, 1947 and to that union two children were born. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them; especially the children. She also loved singing, sewing, baking and gardening.

She was predeceased by her husband Ruben; son Pinkney and her siblings: George, Elliott, James, Willie Belle, Mary, Cornelia, Alice and Sallie.

Mrs. Amelia Alexander relocated to New Rochelle, NY after the death of her son to be closer to her daughter. She was a resident of Sutton Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center until death. She was very active over the years. She attended two church services on Sundays and also on Tuesdays where she would often sing and lead the congregation in prayer. She also enjoyed bowling; bingo, arts and crafts and trips to the dinner theatre. In 2007 she won 1st place in the annual talent show; she sang "Swing Low Sweet Chariot".
Those left to cherish her fond memories of a life well lived and celebrate her homegoing are her daughter Ruby Alexander-McNair (Roger) of Mt. Vernon, NY, grandchildren Tranece Alexander, Aaron Alexander, Tommy Carter and Daryl Bush; adopted grandson Damon Lee; great grandchildren Amari Carter and Sari Alexander, dedicated nephew David Loynes and his son Michael, devoted niece/sister Josie Lee, Spiritual son, James Reynolds, health care aide, Peggy Wiggins, step grand children, step great-grandchildren and a host of other dedicated nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Please do not grieve; just take a few moments to reflect on your interaction with Amelia Alexander during her 104 years journey; she enjoyed life and lived it to the fulliest.
